There is more rubbish written on this subject than just about any other. There are more promises made and broken about your site getting to "Number One", or on the "First Page of the Search Engines" than bear talking about.
Not as simple as they make out.The facts are that SEO is a very long and arduous job, which does not always bring the desired results. SEO is a "grey art". There are no ways to guarantee a given site will make it to the top. Those who promise to make it happen are usually fly-by-nighters who take your money and run. Good advice. We will never make promises about SEO; who can promise something they can't guarantee? However we can implement a series of measures which are a solid basis on which to build a strong presence in the search engines, and we can show you how to continue to build that presence. It can take 12 months or more to get there... you may never get there... or you may get there and then topple back down again. SEO is a constant struggle - a consistent effort from the owner or web master to analyse what the Search Engines are currently requiring (they change all the time - which is why we say this is a "grey art"), to get your site listed far and wide, and to gain "link-backs" from as many sites the Search Engines "respect" as possible. The basics.What we can say is, that having been in the game for quite a while, we know the basics. We put these basic steps into every site we build, and submit the site properly to the three main Search Engines, so we know that if someone searches for your website's name it's going to come up for sure. We then advise you on what you can do to improve your position gradually. Remember, there is no magic process. It is a matter of slowly but surely plodding away, doing what you can, learning along the way, and one day, if you've been persistent enough, your site will rise to where it deserves to be. Directories, forums & review sites There are other ways of getting spectacular results from your site, such as making sure the URL gets into the best, most respected online or printed Directories of businesses like yours. You may have to pay to get it into some of them, but think of it like this; if 10,000 people a day read a particular directory, or forum, or review site, or blog because it has interesting, constantly updated content... and they trust it as an authority on the subject, and your advertisement (including your URL) features prominently on this site, you may very well get more hits than if your site was on page one of Google for your particular search-term! Combine your Ads! Another way to increase your hits dramatically is to combine your online and off-line advertising. Place small Ads in newspapers, magazines, on the radio, on TV - wherever your business is likely to benefit from, and emphasize your Website! So the ads work twice as hard, and bring many extra people to your website to find out more details about what you do.
